Message 391 - Posted: 9 Jan 2020, 10:10:25 UTC - in response to Message 390.

The power of BOINC never ceases to amaze me.
About 800,000 credit per day total for the project is ideal - I know I'm asking a lot of you folks - thanks for bearing with me all these years.
I also know I could upgrade my server, but I'm rather attached to it - it's done such good service. (I have other machines ready to go that might be a bit faster, but then the same situation would probably reoccur down the line).
If anybody wants to do any crunching outside of BOINC and this project, especially on Mersenneplustwos, please feel free, but also keep me informed of any success. There is a mirror of source files linked to from: https://sites.google.com/site/bearnol/math/mersenneplustwo

Message 392 - Posted: 9 Jan 2020, 10:22:30 UTC

Is there any chance of stopping new work being generated but still accepting that which has already been done and not able to be uploaded?

I have roughly 3k tasks marked as "Timed out - no response" since the server went down a week ago and wouldn't accept them.

Not a problem, I'd just like to know if I should wait for them to be accepted or delete them to free up disc space.

I don't think you'll get any credit for them now (one of the things I tried was a transitioner-catchup which I think would have marked them as expired), so yes, probably just delete them if you need the disk space...

No worries, sorry for crashing your server :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement, HK-Steve.
I’ll leave it a couple of days before trying and enabling the project again, and if that doesn’t work, then rinse and repeat.
I don’t really know what the fine line is between having a few people slightly ramp down their processing, and still having a fair overall rate :)
Hopefully we can all find some kind of happy compromise - thanks to you all for your patience...

yes, if it keeps the project running, i'd be happy to have some form of limit on task creation rate or a limit on tasks per host or per core, or whatever helps

don't know of a way to do that(?) - though there is a limit on tasks per day per host, already, which some people running the latest Ryzens for instance can bump into

...though thinking about it for more than 2 seconds, that's not a bad idea - thanks!
I wonder if something like that already exists in BOINC...

...I'm looking into some of the options listed at: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ProjectOptions , but in the meantime we'll stick with the original plan of giving the project a day or two quiescent to recover.
If anybody has any firm advice - I'm all ears!

Hi

I have a modest 50 terminated tasked in "ready to validate" status (uploaded already) 6 days overdue that are just "staying there", I have to abandon them ? but I also have some "automatically abandoned tasks" that are also "staying there" and not removed from my boinc when it connects to the project...

I'm pretty sure the boinc server software has options to limit the workload in different ways, why don't you try your luck with the boinc_projects list ?

I wouldn’t have thought we need you to delete those 50 (but I could be wrong). Maybe we’ll see...

Please, please extend the deadline times so that we stand a better chance of getting credits for completed WU when your server won't allow uploads
